Sarah Black's 3-Day Adventure

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence, by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

March 2001

Over the weekend of September 21st, 2001, I will be participating in a special and powerful event in the fight against breast cancer. It is called the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day and I would like to tell you about it.

I am going to walk from Bear Mountain to Manhattan with more than 3,000 other courageous people to raise money for breast cancer and other diseases that affect women. The net proceeds from the event will support non-profit breast health programs in every region of the country, and medical research on breast cancer. Last year, Dave, my dad, and I met my mom as she walked into Morningside Park in New York City. I was completely overwhelmed with the power that came from the group. In May, my sister Deirdre and a college friend of hers, Kate, will walk in Boston. My mom and I are going to walk together in New York.

I’ve agreed to raise $1,900 in pledges before August 24th! But, I need your help. Would you please consider making a fully tax-deductible pledge to help me meet my goal before August 24th?

This year, over 180,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Over 40,000 will die.* That is why I am walking so far. To do something big. Something I have never done before. I hope that you will share this incredible adventure with me -- by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

All my best,
Sarah
